Have you ever ecounter this error “Repodata is over 2 weeks old. Install yum-cron? Or run: yum makecache fast”?

If you are running a server that was not able ti connect to an active repository server for weeks, that error will prompt about an outdated repository entries. This can be solved by purging the “yum data”

Digitally Sign Your Email with DKIM

Digitally sign your email with DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) and help prevent email spoofing on your side. DKIM adds a private key which stays in your server and a public key that stays in your DNS record. The outgoing email header that you send gets encrypted and the recipient servers then retrieve the public key to decrypt the incoming headers and verify that the messages really comes from your domain and was not altered while it is on transit.

Save Bandwidth Using Delta RPM

“What are Delta RPMs anyway?”. Linux OS providers have come up of a way to save bandwidth when installing or updating your Linux packages/programs. One of the answers are Delta RPMs. A Delta RPM basically collects the difference from the old RPM (packages on your computer) from the one available on the repository and only downloads the correct RPM stripped down to the exact changes.

Always Update Your Virtual Server

Updating your Virtual Server is a must procedure to ensure that you’ll get the latest update and patches. Almost all of the security problems we encounter on our Virtual Server gets easily fixed by performing an application update.

In the video, I used Yum command’s “yum update” to instruct CentOS to download the latest updates.

Installing CentOS 6 Minimal

We will start the video series with a small video showcasing about “Installing CentOS 6 Minimal” using noVNC over the internet’s cloud servers. For the tutorial, I used Vultr since it gives more power to the user by allowing you to install a Minimal version of your favorite OS via custom ISO. When starting a sever, a minimal OS installation is a big YES to avoid software conflicts.
